MArch Work
Llangollen hosts the bi-annual International Eisteddfod celebrations and sees the population swell during the festive period, resulting in a loss of public space for the permanent population. This thesis engaged with the concept of ‘slow living’ and the unexpectedly large number of local community led groups in the small northern Welsh town of Llangollen in order to re-establish a contemporary re-imagining of a Guildhall. This thesis required in-depth research of the local community’s traditional heritage and identity to propose a sensitive and contextual architecture.
